Horehound Herbal Tincture - Respiratory Support
Horehound Herbal Tincture - Respiratory Support
Horehound is a world-renowned plant from the mint family, known for its ability to soothe dry coughs. It's a common ingredient found in lozenges and cough drops for that very reason. This tincture provides all the helpful components of horehound in just a few condensed drops of liquid.
Ingredients: Horehound (Marrubium vulgare) herb, vodka
Health Benefits:
• Cough relief - relaxes and soothes the muscles of the bronchus while promoting mucus production to help prevent the scratchy feeling that triggers coughs
• Bronchitis - acts as an expectorant (helps to bring up and clear out mucus and congestion) and the anti-inflammatory and vasodilation-promoting properties help to relax and soothe the bronchial tubes, throat, and lungs to lessen coughing and irritation
• Digestion - reduces inflammation in the gastrointestinal system and colon, helping the body to better digest food and reduces instances of gas, indigestion, and bloating
• Motion Sickness - traditional use of horehound is to help relieve the symptoms of motion sickness
• Appetite Stimulant - horehound's ability to improve saliva and gastric juice output makes it helpful for increasing appetite
• Anti-inflammatory - helps to reduce inflammation that leads to irritation that causes coughing
How to use it:
Best used at the first signs of illness.
At first recognizable symptoms of cough or sore throat, horehound can help prevent worsening. If you have a persisting cough, sore throat, or respiratory issues, horehound can help! Should NOT be used daily for prolonged periods of time - It should not be used for more than 8 weeks at a time.
For adults and children 12+, at the first sign of illness take one dropper-full (30 drops or 1.5 mL) sublingually (held under your tongue) or diluted in a small amount of tea or water 3-4 times a day until symptoms of illness cease (or no longer than 2 weeks)
For sore throat/tonsilitis and the start of cold/flu symptoms, some sources recommend one dropper-full (30 drops or 1.5 mL) every hour until symptoms cease
If used as a preventative measure, for a limited period of time, take only one dropper-full (30 drops or 1.5 mL) per day
Store your tincture in a dark, cool place. It will last well over 2 years if stored properly and not exposed to sunlight or air often
Notes: It is completely normal to feel a tingling sensation in your mouth after ingesting an herbal tincture. That is a good sign of freshness and effectiveness! If you dilute the tincture with water, you are less likely to experience the tingling feeling, but some studies suggest that diluting lessens the effectiveness of the tincture.
